Once again there are mixed studies on this, some showing that having smaller plates and bowls help and some saying it doesn’t. My personal opinion is yes, you should and this is for two reasons.

  1. What’s the harm? Even if it doesn’t work it won’t hurt or cost you anything
  2. Some very good studies including a meta-analysis in 2016 showed that it really did help.  They found a doubling of plate size increased the amount self-served or amount consumed by 41%.

So I encourage my patients to give it a go.
